Josh Barfield hit a 2-out,2-run walk-off homer to give the Padres a 3-2 win over the Giants this afternoon. San Diego led 1-0 in the 2nd when Geoff Blum singled home new Padre Mike Piazza,but in the 5th,Giants 3rd baseman Pedro Feliz homered off Jake Peavy to tie it up. It remained 1-1 until the 9th when Moises Alou rapped an rbi single to send Winn home to make it 2-1 San Francisco,but the Padres made a comeback in the bottom of the inning,as Terrmel Sledge singled,then pinch-hitter Eric Young moved Sledge to 2nd on a sac bunt,but after Dave Roberts flied out to right,moving Sledge to 3rd,Barfield hit his 2-run shot,his 1st career homer. Jake Peavy was outstanding today,allowing just one run on five hits in 8 innings,and despite giving up what was almost the deciding run,Alan Embree picked up the win. Philip Fitzsimmons? Well,Philly Fitz was 2-for-4 today with 2 singles,but struck out twice. Giants and Padres meet again Wednesday night at 7:05.
